The Twenty Minutes on Friday That Make Monday Easy

For years my Fridays ended mid-thought: laptop closed, half-finished task, a vague promise to remember on Monday where I left off. I never did. The fix turned out to be about twenty minutes, and it changed how my weeks feel.

Close the open loops

The last twenty minutes of the week, I write down exactly where each open thing stands and what the next step is. Not a plan — just a breadcrumb trail so Monday-morning me doesn’t have to reconstruct Friday-afternoon me’s brain from scratch.

Protect the handoff to yourself

You hand off work to your future self every single day. Most people are terrible teammates to that person. Twenty quiet minutes to set them up well is the highest-return meeting on my calendar, and it’s with me.

That’s how I think about it, anyway. If you want a second set of eyes on your own setup, reach out — happy to talk it through.
