After enough years doing this, I’ve noticed the technology that saves a business is almost never the exciting kind. It’s the boring, dependable stuff nobody posts about. I’ve made my peace with that, and honestly I’ve come to love it.
Exciting fails loudly; boring works quietly
The dramatic tools get the attention, but when something goes wrong at 2am, what saves you is a backup that was quietly running the whole time and a login that needed a second factor. Nobody celebrates the disaster that didn’t happen — which is exactly why it’s worth building for.
Spend your attention where it compounds
Get the fundamentals right and most “IT emergencies” never start. That’s not a lack of ambition; it’s where the real leverage is. Solid, boring infrastructure is what lets a business take a swing at the exciting stuff without falling over.
